Best Beef Burger
Serves 4
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 large white onion, sliced
1 teaspoon sugar
½ cup drained Sandhurst Red Capsicum Strips
500g minced beef
1½ cups fresh breadcrumbs
1 small red onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 egg, lightly beaten
½ teaspoon salt
non-stick cooking spray
4 cheese slices (Cheddar or Jarlsberg)
¼ cup quality mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Dijon-style mustard
4 hamburger rolls
1 butter lettuce, outer leaves removed
2 vine ripened tomatoes, sliced
Here's How:
- Heat oil in a frypan over a medium heat. Add sliced onion; reduce heat and cook, stirring occasionally for 20 minutes or until lightly golden. Add sugar and cook stirring for 3 minutes longer. Stir in capsicum, then turn off heat.
- Meanwhile, place beef, breadcrumbs, red onion, garlic, egg and salt in a large bowl and use hands to combine; then form into four 2cm thick burgers. Spray a cast-iron grill or barbeque plate liberally with non-stick cooking spray and heat to medium-hot. Cook burgers for 5 minutes, then turn and top with cheese. Continue cooking 4 minutes for medium or to your liking.
- Combine mayonnaise and mustard.
- Lightly toast inside of rolls. Spread base of each roll with mustard mayonnaise, then top with lettuce, tomato, beef burger and capsicum mixture. Serve with top of roll.
